looked up but was not afraid. After a while it flew off.

Tonight I was up by Dr. Erwin's. Heard a Screech Owl wailing to himself some distance off to the west. It was so far away that I could not distinguish much except a shuddering trembling note. I heard it several times. This is my first record of the Screech Owl for this locality.

November 1, Friday.
This afternoon I saw a curious intance of latent breeding instinct in a this years male English Sparrow. It was hopping around in the road with several others and would pick up a straw and drop it for a better one. Then it flew up to an awning with one and went into a fold of it. It seemed to be trying the place for it soon tried another. Then it came out and still for awhile with the straw in its mouth. It soon let it drop and watched interestedly and then flew away

This afternoon about sundown over in the Park I watched a Great Horned Owl wake up.
