In T. Hacketts Woods near Lane 9:45 A.M.

Nov. 28, 1901
Watched a pair of White breasted Nuthatches feeding. They crept around keeping mostly [[marginalia]] feeding habits [[/marginalia]] in this case to dead tree tops with loose bark although they also went on ordinary trees. They did not hammer around as much as the Downy Woodpecker but poked their bills in the crevices of the bark. They [[marginalia]] notes [[/marginalia]] kept up a low nasal conversational [[underlined]] ick ick [[/underlined]] all the time. They kept close to together and were evidently mated. Occasionally the male gave the harsh nasal note. It was [[marginalia]] looks [[/marginalia]] quite chilly and they kept their feathers fluffed out well. They did not fear me [[marginalia]] claws [[/marginalia]] at all. Their claws made a loud scratching noise on the bark.
