Jan. 26, 1901
[[marginalia]] number [[/marginalia]] This morning in the Plum Orchard there was a flock of about 35 or 40 Tree Sparrows. There was about 6 inches of snow on the ground. [[/marginalia]]. They were very tame. tameness [[/marginalia]]. They were feeding in a little ravine. I walked behind an elm tree and they fed closer and closer till one was about 12 feet off.
[[marginalia]] food [[/marginalia]] They were feeding on various weeds.
[[marginalia]] use of tails [[/marginalia]] They braced with their long tails and reached up for seeds. The feathers in their tails bent and spread making a good support.
[[marginalia]] actions [[/marginalia]] When I walked past them they would hardly fly. They kept up little notes all the time. They did not want to get out in the wind

Transcription Notes:
What does marginalia mean? I sometimes think that "marginalia" denotes a category when it could be just a sentence continuing. Or do words repeat it? 2. Marginalia means "notes written in the margins of a text"
