Cemetery in Baraboo 4:30 P.M. Feb. 24, 1902 Tonight after school I was up in the graveyard. [[marginalia]] wings [[/marginalia]] I was sitting under a pine when I heard the [[underlined]] whir hir whir hir [[/underlined]] of wings looking up I saw a crow flying over. [[marginalia]] note [[/marginalia]] It went away giving a note like [[underlined]] caw caw caw caw caw caw [[/underlined]] as if to give warning of my presence. It circled around 4 or 5 times and each time gave the note. [[marginalia]] flight [[/marginalia]] It primaries were spread apart like fingers. It flew with a steady flapping flight. Its wings could be heard distinctly. Finally it lit a little ways off but flew away when I stood up. Saw another fly over the city at a great height.
Transcription Notes:
I have observed that if you are near a crow's nest in the forest, that crows will congregate and circle, making the note Wetmore describes. You can create the same effect by mimicking the note of juvenile crows [ka ka ka ka] whether near a nest or not.
