Maines Woods 6:45 A.M.

April 27, 1902
This morning Mr. Champion and I were down in Maine's Woods. Crown Thrashers were abundant. [[marginalia]] number [[/marginalia]] Saw six in flight. They were in full song and one at least was going most of the time. They were very tame and sang while we were quite close to them. [[marginalia]] flight [[/marginalia]] When they flew their long tails worked up and down like pump handles. One lit on the ground and commenced picking. I could see the dirt fly at every stroke.
