crowned Night Heron. The first I had ever seen. The flight was flapping and at a fair rate of speed as that of all Herons is. Jean Bannel said that he had seen it for several nights. He scared it up on this side among the brushpiles.

September 18, Thursday
This morning it was rather cloudy but the sun shone occasionally. The Robins were very thick as usual. They roost in the maple trees and are very tame. Some of them have lost the thick feathers

by moulting and have a very queer look. They are not very noisy but move around considerable. They are rather pugnacious I saw some eating crab apples in Miss Gattiker's yard. In Hoags yard they bathe and drink in the pan. (Baraboo)

There were also a number of Bronzed Grackles around. There is a flock of about 35 and as far as I can tell they are all males. They seem to keep in a certain territory. There were a number feeding on sweet corn with several
