It was repeated twice and I was just going over there to see what it was when a Bluejay flew over there from Dalkes marsh and lighting on a tree gave the same note so the mystery was solved as I do not think that any other bird around here would have given it so that the Jay would mock it. It was a grunting note repeated half a dozen times and reminded me slightly of a Woodchuck.

Across the Railroad Bridge was a pair of Bluejays that I watched for sometime. They were very sly and hunted a long brushy

fences and through thorn apples occasionally finding something to eat and holding it under one foot while they picked it to pieces. I think from their actions that they were mated as they always kept together.

Another one was pestering an English Sparrow that had strayed out there.  It would fly under the sparrow just missing it and the Sparrow chase it a short distance but was not able to follow it far because it twisted so. The Jay kept it crest raised and looked the very picture mischief. It came
