About ten oclock two Phoebes circled down into the woods and began to call and one gave the flight song for about five minutes. I think they must have been migrating by day as they soon relapsed into silence as if tired only rousing occasionally to call.

Heard three or four Brown Creepers calling. They were evidently migrants.

About noon Heavy clouds blew and it seemed about to rain. Three Red-tailed Hawks came circling over and began to scream. They were two females and a male.

The male was the smallest. The prospect of a storm seemed to make them more lively.
The Red Squirrels kept very quiet only occasionally scolding from the shelter of the pines. The Hawks gave notes like [[underline]] e tsuck, streck, tserk [[/underline]], [[underline]]Ke-e-e-yér-r-r [[/underline]] and a squealing [[underline]]tsea[[/underline]]. Occasionally they mounted high in the air and descended in great Bounds.
