April 2, Thursday.

This morning before breakfast I went down in the old Pasture.
A Flicker flew past me with a peculiar wing beat. Afterwards I heard it several times it was louder and clearer than that of the Downy Woodpecker. I saw a single Vesper ^[[Sparrow]] it was very wild and had probable come during the night.

Song and Tree sparrows were in full song.

A flock of Juncoes kept by themselves near the Coulee.
