Saw a number of Indigo Bunting's in a pasture.  The males were very hard to see against the green leaves. I nearly shot a female for a new bird.

July 5 Tuesday.

Half Moon Woods, North Freedom, Wis, iris brown. basal half of bill slate. rest dull black. tarsus greenish [[strikethrough]] white [[/strikethrough]] slate. Length 9 1/16 wing 5 3/4 tail 2 7/8 [[female symbol]] ad. stomach contents insects & hard seeds.

This afternoon Ed Cheney and I went up by the Half Moon.  Heard a number of Cerulean Warblers singing.  They kept in the leaves so much that I could not see them.
