a small bird flew up on a limb and chipped at me bobbing nervously all the while. When I shot it I found it was a Parula Warbler.

Maryland Yellowthroats were very numerous. I was near a nest or some young ^[[once]] once and the calls of the old ones brought six or eight more to the spot. In a place covered with thick grass I scared up three Swamp sparrows and secured two. When frightened up they immediately took refuge in the bushes and kept concealed until I had been quiet for some time.
