349. Coturniculus passerinus savannarum. A. Wetmore Field near Morley's, North Freedom, Wis, iris hair brown. Culmen brown, rest of bill flesh color. tarsus flesh color. Length 4 3/4 wing 2 1/2 tail 1 5/7 [[male symbol]] im. stomach contents seeds

350. Philohela minor. W. Link, Swamp near Joel Hackett's, North Freedom, Wis, iris drab. tip of bill black. rest drab brown tarsus dark flesh color. Length 10 5/8 wing 5 1/2 tail 2 1/16. [[female symbol]] ad. stomach contents thin mud.

This morning Link and I went after the Prairie Chickens again. We hunted all over  but did not see any.

We sat down by a swamp to rest and the dog chased up a Woodcock. It went nearly straight up with whistling wing and then off through the trees. We went after it again and when it came up both shot at the same time. It was in a bad condition of molt. It was in an Alder Swamp with a growth of trees on low ground. The soil was quite soft.

Farther on we scared up a number of Sora around a small pool.

In some weeds were a number of sparrows. One that I did not recognise flew out with a faint [[underline]] tseet [[/underline]]. I went after and it proved to be a young Grasshopper Sparrow. On comparing it with four others supposedly the same shot July 6
