It was cold at night but I went down to look for Night-Hawk. Scared up one from the grass where it was resting. No insects out hardly. 

Aug. 23, Tuesday

377. Rallus virginianus. A. Wetmore. Seeley's Marsh, North Freedom, Wis, iris brown. maxilla brown. rest of bill reddish brown except tip of mandible which is like maxilla. tarsus buffy brown. darker behind. Length 8 13/16 wing 4 1/4 tail 1 9/16 ♀ im. stomach contents. seeds. 

378 Vireo olivaceous. A Wetmore. Old Pasture, North Freedom, Wis, iris dull cinnamon. maxilla brownish black. rami flesh color. rest of bill very light slate. Length 5 7/8 wing 3 1/8 tail 1 15/16 ♀ im. stomach contents. buckwheat.

379. Ampelis cedrorum. A. Wetmore, Seeley's Marsh, North Freedom, Wis, iris brown. bill black tarsus black Length 6 wing 3 1/2 tail 2 ♂ ad. stomach contents black cherries 

380. Melospiza georgiana A. Wetmore, Seeley's Marsh, North Freedom, Wis, iris brown. maxilla & sides of mandible dark brown. rest of bill lighter. tarsus light brown. Length 5 3/8 wing 2 1/2 tail 2 1/8 ♂ im. stomach contents insects. 

381. Porzana carolina. A. Wetmore. Seeley's Marsh, North Freedom, Wis, iris light brown. Maxilla & tip of mandible greenish rest of bill yellow. tarsus darker green, lighter in front. Length 7 3/4 wing 4 1/4 tail 1 9/16 ♂ im. stomach contents seeds.
