Seeley's Marsh. There were quite a few Vireos, Red-eyed & Warbling in the Old Pasture. They were in the bushes but on my approach flew up into the trees. I shot a Red-Eyed. I thought maybe it had eaten prickly ash but it was buckwheat. The Warbling Vireos sang a little.

There were quite a few Swamp sparrows in the marsh. I shot a couple which I could not find. Saw one with no tail several times. Their tails are always badly worn.

Bobolinks were thick. They were flying out to feed in flocks of from three to over fifty. By the time I reached the marsh all were gone.

Yesterday I set a dozen steel traps in sets of three along the little pathways in the grass. The first and last sets were empty. In the second I found a Virginia Rail. It struck as almost an exact miniature of the King Rail. It was a very pretty bird. I prized it the more because I had been trying to get one all summer. In the 3rd set was a single Sora. I saw several others fly up. They seemed to fly swifter than usual. The feet dangled for a short ways and then they were drawn up. I scared two out of the long grass in the pasture where
