400 Pooecetes gramineus. A. Wetmore. Mines track near Slough, North Freedom, Wis, iris brown. maxilla dark brown. tip of bill dull lilac rest buffy. tarsus pale brown. Length 6 wing 3 1/8 tail 2 3/8 [[female symbol]] ad. stomach contents seeds.

This morning after breakfast I went over in Will Dickie's Marsh. By the Slough were a great many sparrows. I shot all my birds here. They were all feeding among the weeds and there were considerable members of each kind

Saw three Mallard light in the marsh but before I got to them a Great Blue Heron rose and they flew. They sailed over my head with curved wings before lighting. 

Saw two Great Blue Herons. They were very tame. Once I shot and one flew up and lit about sixty feet away. When they started to fly they kept the neck out straight for some time. I also saw the American & Least Bitterns and a Green Heron. I shot the big bittern but was unable to find it. 

A few Barn & Cliff Swallows were flying around and I saw quite a number of Purple Finches.

Soras were very common. I scared them up most anywhere where there was water and I could hear them especially after I shot in all
