directions. Once a Virginia blundered out back of me from a point about two feet away. before I could get the gun around it flew. I must have almost stepped on it. Marsh Wrens of both kinds were common. I shot a couple but could not find them.

August 27 Saturday.

401. Porzana carolina. A. Wetmore. Seeley's Marsh, North Freedom, Wis, iris brown. maxilla dull green. ring around [[strikethrough]] same [[/strikethrough]] base & rest of bill yellow. tarsus green. Length 8 5/8 wing 4 1/16 tail 2, [[male symbol]] ad stomach contents seeds.

402. Porzana carolina. A. Wetmore. Seeley's Marsh, North Freedom, Wis, iris brown. maxilla dull green ring on base and rest of bill yellow. tip of mandible duller. tarsus dull green. Length 8 3/8 wing 4 7/16 tail 2 1/8 [[female symbol]] im stomach contents seeds.

403. Dendroica masculosa. A. Wetmore. Shale's Swamp, North Freedom, Wis, iris drab. maxilla & tip of mandible dark brown rest of bill horn. tarsus dark brown. Length 4 11/16 wing 2 3/8 tail 1 15/16 [[male symbol]] im. stomach contents insects.

404. Dendroica maculosa. A. Wetmore, Shale's Swamp, North Freedom, Wis, iris dark brown maxilla & tip of mandible brown. rest of bill pale buffy white. tarsus brown. Length 4 9/16 wing 2 1/4 tail 1 15/16 [[female symbol]] im. stomach contents worms. 

405. Helminthophila peregrina. A. Wetmore. Half Moon Woods, North Freedom, Wis, iris brown. Maxilla & all of mandible except base brown. rest horn color. tarsus brown. Length 4 1/2 wing 2 5/8 tail 1 5/8 [[female symbol]] im stomach contents insects
