the bank with a low [[underlined]] quack [[/underlined]]. It was only a few feet off. I took it to be a Mallard.

Saw the Teal again up the river. They flew and kept just above the water until around a bend when they rose and flew over me. They went down the river and then turned back toward Dickie's Marsh.

Heard a few Robins about dark. They are not roosting by the Plum Orchard much this year. I think there is a roost near the Millpond.

September 12, Monday.

Tonight after school Mr. Stout and I went up by Tuttle's. He had a Stevens pocket rifle bored out to shoot shot loaned him by Mr. Skavlem. It spread a good deal.

A Vesper sparrow flew up and we thought it was a Horned Lark until it lit in a tree.

This morning I saw a Myrtle Warbler in North Freedom. Several Tennessee Warblers passed through a tree outside my window in Baraboo. They were quite active and were accompanied by a Redstart which was never still.
