Wis, iris reddish brown bill greenish black. tarsus drab green. Length 9 5/8 wing 5 7/16 tail 3 1/8 [[male symbol]] ad. stomach contents acorns.

This morning I shot the handsomest Red-bellied Woodpecker I ever saw. He flew from one trunk to another ahead of me and called.

October 6, Thursday.

Last night was the hardest frost we have had yet. Heard a Lesser Yellowlegs fly over. This morning Bluebirds and Bluejays were flying over toward the Southwest. The Bluebirds calling and the Jays silent.
Heard a Ruby crowned Kinglet give part of its song-- The opening notes. Once this fall I heard one carry the whole thing through but in a low tone.
