a few feet at first. I only saw one or two others. It appeared slightly different than the others.
I also saw two more Leconte Sparrows. One was in not quite so deep water as A. nelsoni and flew into the tall grass. I stepped to the fence to cross when it flew into a bush and sat there quietly looking at me. I shot this one but it only had one or two tail feathers which of course fell out when I picked it up. The other one was in the grass over a few inches of water and flew into a bush and immediately disappeared. They appeared even on the wing slightly smaller than A. nelsoni.

In the tall marsh grass I found several platforms made a few inches below the general level by bending over the tops of grass and laying across them shorter pieces bitten off from the surrounding foliage. It was a bird from the looks of the excreta and I took it to be a short-eared Owl but did not see it.
In a field near here which had been plowed a short time before I found a small flock of Pipits. They ran along ahead of me and did not appear frightened even when I shot. I did not see them until one gave a low call. They were entirely different from those seen previously in tameness

This afternoon I went down along the river. A flock of about fifteen Ring-necked Ducks & lit in the river I crawled along until I got near. They were under the bank and were
