This morning after breakfast I went over to the Millpond. Saw great numbers of Tree sparrows in favorable places. Heard a few Meadowlarks but did not see any. Along the pond I saw a couple of Red-headed woodpeckers. The greater part of them are gone. Perhaps these will stay all winter.

Three medium sized Ducks flew over my head with loudly whislling wings. It sounded much like a Mourning Dove. They flew straight north. I also saw a large flock of Mallard a long way off.

Saw a Pied billed grebe on the pond. Went after it but the canoe leaked so badly I had to come back. Saw no Kingfishers.

Near the Iriquois Mines I found a number of birds. A large flock of Juncos were feeding around the rocks. They seem always to prefer these places and keep out of the sun a good deal.

Purple Finches were flying around all day and also crossbills or what I took to be Crossbills. I could no close shots and they never seemed to light.

By the Iriquois were still a few White-throats and Fox Sparrows. They were on the North slope among the rocks. They generally came up a few feet away and lit in a bush before disappearing again.

The water in Dickie's Marsh was very low. I obtained a couple of Rusty Blackbirds here. They were along a little run.

Pipits were also feeding here near the water.
