kept it crest raised and looked very pretty. They sang some.

Found a flock of Bobwhites. They ran into a brushpile and hid and I had to step on it before they would fly. I picked a female and shot it.

There were a few Rusty and Red-winged Blackbirds flying around but I could get no shots a them.

Went up to the Pine Grove back of the Iriquois Mine. There was a flock of about 30 Pine Siskins here. They flew around singing [[underlined]] spz-z-z-zt [[/underlined]] and calling [[underlined]]] chea [[/underlined]] and other notes. They were so restless that it was some time before I got a shot. They would fly into a tree and go on again after a minute or maybe not light at all. They would fly into the branches and sit quiet for a minute and then go out to the cones. One flock came back several times. I heard many others flying over but were the only one I got close to. One single one came flying around after I shot but was so restless I could hardly shoot it. It would hover and light and then go on again. They were about as restless birds as I ever saw.

After dinner I went down along the river and into Alder Swamp. Jack Snipe flew around about dusk. They passed me like bullets. Saw that Northern Shrike chasing a Tree Sparrow. I could not shoot it. Saw five or six this morning but they were always out of range. heard Kill [[strikethrough]] e [[/strikethrough]]deer & Woodcock.
