We heard 2 Yellow-bellies singing here this morning (quite far apart - definitely not the same bird.  Both gave essentially the same song.  A complete typical song phrase was comme ça:

"Feeoo Feeoo chuk-chuk-chuk"

Occasionally an extra, fourth, "chuk" note was added at the end. To my surprise, there was never any R added. (One of these birds singing today was almost certainly the same bird I heard singing on May 21, see p. 21.  He didn't utter any R's then either).

Both birds also uttered lots of "miscellaneous" "Feeoo"s and "chuk"s. Either singly, or in series, or all mixed together in apparently random order.

In some cases, the terminal 3 or 4 "chuk"s were replaced by three or four "chew"s, abbreviated whistles rather like the first "Feeoo" Notes but shorter.

I got one very good glimpse of one of the birds singing. In between songs it sat in the posture shown on May 26, 1960, p. 24, but every time it uttered a note, it definitely pointed its head diagonally upward. CR was extreme throughout; and the wings were just very slightly drooped.

Both birds appeared to be quite alone while singing. Like the other Yellow-bellies I have watched, they were quite restless during the

[[images: sketches of birds]] Changed "Teeoo" to "Feeoo" here - compare with Teeoo on page 27 (T in Teeeoo is written differently from what I think is an F here). Someone else should confirm, please. Agree that "Feeoo" compare first letter to the first letter in "To my surprise"
