Ring-bill, May 13, II,
1955.

Both eyes half and equally closed during advance in rather aggressive U.

A little pair-formation or pairing going on. A male alone, defending territory. Doesn't display much to flying birds; but occasionally visited, apparently by females

1 M.C. MC. male U (very high and thin, but moderately agg. angle of bill)-HF-HF female U-HF-HF-HF-U-PAG-U.- attacks neighbor (female definitely more agg than male

2 M.C. M.C. male U (same U)-HF-HF-HF-U-attacks female. Female does U-HF-HF-escape. (her U. same as that of male) 3:41

It seems to be the same female visiting the male again & again. M.C. almost always of the U-HF-HF type. No TCP elements. Female gives one or two T's once. Male once gives M. Circular flights by one or both birds. One returns once with landing call, but other returns silent. Can't see hostile performances in the air (if there are any) This is essentially what I saw at Delta - only possible difference (aside from slight difference in phase of breeding cycle) is that the male is perhaps somewhat more territorial.

I think that females occasionally visit well-mated males also. Don't get much for their pains. They U-HF constantly. And although these males may occasionally U-HF back, the females are usually attacked very shortly. 4:00.

Freeze can be standing up as well as sitting down. Also with only very slight aggressive "head-set."

Leaving 5:00 p.m.
