Aerial hostility

Watched some birds feeding and resting on lake front. Flying by from time to time. Disturbed them by walking near them several times. Noted several patterns.

Long Call Note "Aow" or "how"

Silent swoop and roar. One bird briefly chasing another. Quite like Bh.G. but almost certainly unritualized — very little up-and-down.

"Pursuit" pattern. I put up flock. Lots of milling birds. One, (chasing another?), flew several hundred yards in typical pursuit type of flight: fast, deep, wing-beats generally "elastic" or "bouncing" affect. Uttering distinctive high, thin, reedy, long-drawn notes, very close together: "Kreeeeeeee kreeeeeeeee kreeeeeeeee......" Distinct rolling effect; almost "kreereereeree kreereereeree....") This call was rather similar in quality to certain calls of juveniles; but I didn't note if this bird was a yearling or not.
