RING-BILLED GULL 1955 Captive Check "John" Hatched early morning June 23rd or late night June 22 16th day JULY 4th Still seems to have just high intensity and low-intensity DC's. Recorded. Postures just like those accompanying the same calls in Franklin's Note some variation in these calls now There seems to be an increasing tendency to "purify" the high intensity DC sounds. Becoming more whistle-like, more like the low-intensity DC. sounds, and also more like the adult calls. Have noticed one sound intermediate apparently between the high intensity and low intensity DC's. Rhythm of high intensity, quality "clear" as in low-intensity. Highest intensity DC (i.e. the sound produced when you pick the bird up and juggle it) is noticeably distinct now. Polysyllabic high-intensity D.C. rhythm, clear (rather as in low-intensity DC.) but very loud (much louder than low-intensity D.C.). [[image - sketch of bird]] head pointed downward Usually occurs if you hit the bird 21st day JULY 9th Not much new. Voice clearing, but very slowly. May occasionally greet me with HB, but very slight Usually greeting is just erect posture with high-intensity DC,
