Black Tern 1955
Captive Chicks

RR (RED RUMP) hatched sometime in night of July 2 - July 3
[[strikethrough]] BR (Blue Rump) [[/strikethrough]] Died July 9

Have recorded what seems to be their only really Distress Call. Rasping, rather reminiscent of Franklin's Gull.

Have heard, once or twice, a faint "piping" version of the distress call. Is this a "low intensity D.C.?" Sounds like it and occurs, after feeding, when you might expect a low intensity D.C.

RT (RED TAIL) - hatched night July 6 or early morning July 7.

JULY 9 Nothing new to report. Both RR and BR have occasionally given softer piping notes instead of their usual D.C. But these are rare, and it does not seem to be valid, yet, to speak of high intensity and low intensity D.C.'s as distinct calls.

YT (Yellow Tail) - hatched ca 2:30 p.m. July 10
