Larus III

Often accompanies the head-down posture I have drawn in Willie. Also accompanies a posture with semi-oblique position of head & neck, but without much stretching of neck.

Real polysyllabic distress call is very rare now. Can still be provoked, however, by picking up birds. Perhaps getting more like alarm "ha ha ha ha ha."

Gus and Willie's scapular feathers are prominent now, but other feathers are in conspicuous or invisible. Still look generally downy.

Joe seems to have both types of DC already yesterday Without ritualized accompanying postures.

Head-down posture, in Willie at least, seems to be relatively non-aggressive, probably fairly high intensity.

July 11

Joe's Rasp can also be transcribed as "haaaa haaa haaa.."

Put Joe in pen with Green head 2. Gives brief series of rasps. Pecks repeatedly at GR2's feet, also repeatedly grasps GR2's bill. FB or hostility.

Can still provoke whistle "contentment" note in JOe

Willie can still be provoked into giving high intensity DC trisyllabic. Sounds like "ha ha ha ha" alarm notes of adults

Can't seem to provoke high intensity DC in Gus.

2:15 Have let all the gulls except GR2 ad Joe together. Haven't found one another yet.

Gus occasionally gives one or two explosive notes. Reminiscent of both adult ALC and chick high intensity DC.

21st day
July 12

Gus occasionally gives brief DC when his two playmates are around. Can't see why.

The "haaa" notes of both Willie [[left arrow]] especially and Gus are becoming clearer. More like both the FB note and the adult Trumpet.

Correction. Can't tell too much about Gus's "haaa" notes, as they are now. Seems to be giving high intensity DC instead
