Larus V

see as "greeting". Sometimes trace of HB.

Willie still gives D.C. in semi U posture. Don't know why. Comes in spells. Not at all like ALC of adults. More like ALC of adults when he is perched up.

One respect in which both Willie and Joe differ from the Franklin's is that their greeting is never accompanied by really definite bowing. Do it from H, or U, or L.

Put Willie near Franklin's. He is violently attacked. Runs away in short neck L, with "haaa"s (rasping). [[Scapulars?]] smooth. Then, as he gets farther way, the [[scapular?]] comes up. Quite distinct, but not as extreme as in X, for instance.

Correction. Try same thing again. Less vigorously attacked, but otherwise similar. "Kaa" notes re not Rasping.

Again, again not rasping.

July 18.

Joe occasionally greets me with bowing. Not as regular, however, as that of Franklin's.

Joe also shows wings-drooped. Attack pattern just like that of the Franklin's.

July 20

Willie, very hungry, greets us with bowing and usual "bliooo" sounds. Then switches to high intensity D.C.
Looks as if high intensity D.C. might be still high intensity first - section? Especially as the same call occurs during abortive flying attempts.

Three new Ring-bills. Willie = Red Tail
Blue-head = younger than Willie
Blue-tail = older than Willie.
Yellow-tail = Willie's age

July 23

Willie still giving D.C.quite frequently almost as a "greeting" sometimes.
