Again Juv. landing with series of h.i. D.C. notes

One chick repelling another with pattern intermediate H posture, neck extended straight forward, R, and rapidly repeated "kidoh kidah kidah...." notes (notes obviously intermediate between juv. Glik and h.i. DC. notes)

Adult landed at a nest-site some time ago. Has been doing constant O-L's, with LC, interspersed with [[?]] LCN notes (single) from L. Thought it was showing pairing behavior, so paid no attention. But suddenly chick [[?]] distance. Giving [[?]] D.C. notes. About doubles O-L's and LCN's from [[?]]. Chick approaches, [[?]] as fait as it can, still [[?]] b. c.D.C's. Then when chick very near, adult gives 3 M notes from L. Two brief Ch. type notes when chick joins it. Chick immediately FB. Adult regurges & feeds, 3:20

Stray chick wanders on to nest site where adult & young are standing. Adult give Glik notes, or a gleek, but otherwise stands silently by while its own chick [[?]] furiously with intruder (usual juv. glik, HDH with R patterns) have not seen this before Chick is even more vigorous in defense of its territory (against other chicks) than is the parent.

All the cases of adult Glik I have seen today have been directed toward stray chicks Always brief. It is quite remarkable how rare adult Glik is now (and was, on July 14)

Quite a number of general free-for-alls among chicks [[strikethrough]] today [[/strikethrough]]. Much vigorous attacking, all the displays I have ever seen, including whistles, but not HT, can occur during these displays. But only few glik with HDH & R in common, and the only other patter that is not extremely rare is B with h.c.D.C. (& sometimes R) Whistles tend to occur when fight is over. Have seen them apparently redirected toward sibling.

Terrific wind now 3:30 Starting to rain & the
