Franklin's VIII July 20 Various patterns now present in the medium Franklin's. (1) HD, scapulars raised, neck now sometimes fairly elongate With series of "haaar" notes. Obviously high intensity. Sometimes, apparently, relatively aggressive; sometimes relatively less aggressive. [[image - sketch of bird]] (2) Bowing or Head-bobbing. Scapulars usually smooth. Sound a clearer "hliooo," definitely cut off at end. One syllable per downbeat. Sound may be derivative of FB "hliooo," or, I think and hope, a "clarification" of the "haaar." [[2 images - sketches of birds]] up phase down phase (3) Attack call. Short, pumped-out, series of "haar" notes. Not, I think, definitely & completely linked with any particular posture, but usually associated with (1). (4) High Intensity D.C. Still a rattle. Tends to appear, briefly, during abortive flying attempts. (5) FB. "hlioo." Usually from H. Or in bowing. From H with slight T. Less cut-off than more agg. "hlioos"? Various intermediates and aberrations. (A) "Kaa" from posture. With scapulars raised. Very aggressive, I think, but perhaps high intensity. [[image - sketch of bird]] (B) "Kaa" from H with scapulars raised. Probably not high intensity. [[image - sketch of bird]]
