Ramphocelus, Apr. 22, 1958, II

One very common combination of notes is CN-CN-MCN (or is itWhN??)[[image - 3 lines]].

The strange male was back visiting this morning, and off and on all day, provoking all sorts of behavior, most of it at least partly hostile. I couldn't follow most of this very well being busy elsewhere, but some aspect of the dispute were fairly clear.

The visitor uttered a lot of PCN's interspersed with its CN's and MCN's when it first arrived, and by later afternoon, when the intensity of the disputing had declined tremendously, it was uttering almost nothing but PCN's with only a few CN's and every fewer MCN's. This would certainly suggest that many, at least, of the PCN's are relatively low intensity.

This visitor didn't seem to make any particular effort to join the captive "female" - most of its reactions were (?) the captive adult male - which might suggest that the PCN's are purely hostile??

The captive adult male assumed several (?) Postures (silent) during the encounter this afternoon. I did not notice there this morning, which might suggest that the (?) (at least the silent form) is a relatively low intensity pattern. In general, I find the(?) very difficult to figure out. It often looks like an unritualized combination of the ordinary, pre-flying posture
