Ramphocelus, I

Up here early this morning. The Y Orange-rump was behaving much as yesterday. Lots of "Whit" - like Notes. I have now decided that these might be better transcribed as 'Tsit." Sometimes associated with, utter before or after, R. A number of R's by themselves. And just a very few single "Auh" CN's! (I wonder if the fact that this species shows so many "Tsit"s - which seem to occur as CN's - and so few "Auh"s might be a "primitive" characters???)

Like the Yellow-rumps at Darien (?) this Y Orange-rump was very vocal just after dawn and then became more silent. 

O did very little or no vocalizing this morning. Does thius mean that all the "Tsit"s and R's Y is giving an indication of reproductive "mood"???

There is another tanager in the same cage as Y,which is supposedly a peculiar Ramphocelus.  This is the Black-throated Tanager. A male in adult plumage. If it is a Ramphocelus, it is really quite peculiar indeed. It looks so much like a (?)

This bird was apparently very sick when the zoo got him and he is not supposed to be quite recovered yet, so his behavior may not be quite "normal", but he certainly holds himself rather differently from the (?) tanagers with which I am familiar. Tend to sit or stand quite placidly for quite long periods of time, quite erect like a grosbeak (with head & neck drawn
