Rhamphocelus [[Ramphocelus]], Dec. 24, 1958, II.

the MCN's sometimes given when Rhamphocelus [[Ramphocelus]] individuals join one another may well be strictly homologous with the GHAC. (I should add, however, that MCN's seem to be comparatively very rare in the Silver-bill.)

The members of this group of Silver-bills do increase "Trit" CN calling when the flock is widely scattered than when it is very compact. And a bird flying away from the flock or flying toward it is even more likely to give "Trit"s than "Wheeet"s. The "Wheeet"s probably only occur at high intensities of something or other.

I forgot to add yesterday that the Black throats only joined the Silver bills sometimes after dawn. The 2 groups presumably roost in different places. And the same thing happened this morning. This morning, however, the mixed flock has been somewhat less stable than yesterday. The Black-throats have gone off by themselves from time to time.

When 2 of the Black-throat family tried to land on the same twig one or both did more of that "twittering MCN."

March 3, 1959
Cerro Punta

Saw an adult male, and 2 juvenile or female, Scarlet-rumped Tanagers (panerinii = [[purple scribble]] on the road between ConcepciĆ³n and El Volcan.

They weren't doing much, and we didn't have time to stop for very long. All I noticed was that the general actions of the species, and its wing & tail flecks, were quite like those of related species.
