Rhamphocelus [[Ramphocelus]], Jun. 15, 1961, IV

briefly in BL & TU, usually with little St or BF, no wing raising or holding out of the wings.

[[image]] Extreme St & BL & BF & TU, one wing out and other raised.

Another cop attempt. More or less as before. Male in St, BL & BF & TU little or no wing raising. Female utters MCN's as male mounts. Cop obviously unsuccessful.

I have now determined that all or most of the female's soliciting postures are accompanied by St.

In other words, the pre-copulatory postures of the male and female are identical, except that the female apparently does not raise one wing asymmetrically. (I shall call both complex patterns simply "Pre-cop Postures" from now on.)

The female's Pre-cop Postures are usually accompanied by quite an extreme BF as the male Pre-cop Posture drawn immediately above.

Both birds have extreme Tail-fanning in their Pre-cop Postures.

The male sometimes assumes a Pre-cop Posture with the wings held out horizontally and symmetrically. No sign of one wing being raised above
