Ramphocelus, Feb. 18 1962, III

"Wheeeee-aah"s. Sometimes loud and hoarse. Always much longer and usually or always lower than TssN's. A seems to be particularly apt to utter PN's when he hears other YR's in distance. (Other YR's usually NN's.) Bill OCB with all types PN's and TssN's.

This series of TssN's and PN's occasionally interrupted by single NN's. Also occas. preening moves.

The YR's here do not seem to be regularly associated in pairs of 1 male and 1 female. Perhaps they don't form real pairs? (I must check [[sketch?]] on [[panerinii?]])

A back 7:30. Calling as before. Most of his PN's of the musical "Wheee-ah" type. These are much softer than the TssN's or the hoarse "Wheee-upS" type of PN. I think the latter may be nothing more than intermediates between the melodious "Wheeee-ah's and typical TssN.(And/or they might be modified Ф's).

A would certainly appear to be ready for a female.

I think the loud hoarse type of "PN" was the type heard most frequently (or exclusively?) during my January observations.

A still continuing as before 7:40. As far as I know, he has not been joined by a female all morning. But he does occasionally fly away to join a small flock of 3 or 4 females or juvs.

Well! Well! Well! A sitting alone. Starts to utter NN's in alteration with a bird some distance away. Then the other bird joins him female. A greets her by uttering whole series ФR's, one right after the other. Then hops straight away from her. In posture drawn on next page. Falls silent as soon as he turns away from female. Female stands a second. At this point, I see she is carrying n.m. (a straw) in bill!!! Female does not display. Male flies off. Female follows. Both silent. I lose sight of
