upon another, flying, Yellow-rump (female and/or juv ?) The male uttered ФR immediately before, during, and immediately after the pounce or attack.

I can certainly confirm that series of TssN's are usually or always uttered only by solitary or isolated male Yellow-rumps. Usually or always without ruffling or fluffing of back or rump feathers.

Ramphocelus, I.

February 23, 1962
Rio Piedras

Working in a different area this morning. Near mouth of river.

Heard my first YR sounds at 6:20 a.m. By male whom I shall call "B." Burst of NN's. Then B began to utter a very regular but indeterminate series of TssN's. Very Dawn Calling-like. [[image]] Intervals between notes appreciably longer than notes themselves. B sat quietly on a very low perch in a bush while he uttered these TssN's. Probably at or near his sleeping site. Then he saw me, and flew to another and higher perch 6:25 a.m. There he uttered more TssN's in less regular series, usually longer intervals between notes. Then stops after a moment or so.

At 6:28, I noticed another Yellow-rump (whom I shall call "C".) perched on a very high and exposed perch in a dead tree. Quite silent. Looking from side to side. Very reminiscent of Sooty-caps at Cerro Punta. Then begins to utter TssN's. Only a few. At irregular intervals. Sitting in posture comme ça:
