Ramphocelus, Feb. 24, 1962, II

Then Back R gradually develops. Then (underlined) wings droop. Then bird flies away 7:00 a.m.

7:05 C uttering more (?)'s. With Back R but without drooping of the wings. His (?)'s are quite short. Perched high and exposed apparently alone. Then another Yellow-rump starts to utter NN's nearby C immediately begins to utter longer (?)'s. Wings drooped a little. Back R maintained. Then other bird shuts up. C reverts to shorter (?)'s. Uttered at very regular intervals. Wings go back over rump, but I think trace of Back R remains.

7:40. B now uttering (?) with slight Back R but wings meeting or nearly meeting over rump.

February 25,1962
Rio Piedras

Working in same area as yesterday.

First Yellow-rump sounds heard 6:23 a.m. From both B and C. Both utter brief bursts of NN's. Then series of TssN's. Then begin (?)'s quite soon.

See a juv. or female bird perched high in dead tree 6:27 a.m. Uttering TssN - R - TssN - R - TssN -R......Once utters a real adult-type (?) (including a terminal "yah") instead of the usual R. Shuts up when joined by an adult male, probably C, and another juv. or female. Then is supplanted by the adult male. The latter utters a soft accelerated (?) R during the supplant. Then the juv. or female who had been "singing" flew away. Followed by male and other juv. or female. Then all 3 birds feed close together. More or less a (?) Apparently a family group
