Back to the same area again today, but did not pay much attention to Yellow-rumps during the first part of the morning.

About 7:15 a.m., I came upon a male and a female or juv.  Yellow-rump flying about excitedly. With lots of accelerated soft R's or ФR's. When the male uttered neck rattles while perched, he always sat with his wings drooped and Back R.

About 9:00 a.m., we suddenly saw a female or juv. Yellow-rump fly out of the grass, carrying n.m. (long straws) in "her" bill. Quite silent. An adult male followed her a second or so later, hopping from perch to perch. Quite silent. With all head feathers erected. Head looking rounded, cheeks swollen. Comme ça

At the same time, he kept his wings together, folded ,on his rump. (There may, conceivably, have been a trace of Back R under the wings).
