128 Ramphocelus, Mar. 24, 1962, III very rapidly in big fig tree. Lots and lots of very accelerated ФR's and R's. (The two types of R's really quite inseparable). Little or nothing in way of other calls. The whole thing looked very much as if it might have been a boundary dispute. One of the ♀'s or juvs. had an extreme Back R & Wing-droop with her R's. The R-ФR patterns seem to be quite contagious. Especially the accelerated type. The most contagious vocal pattern of the species. As far as I can tell, the family groups seem to be maintaining themselves intact still. Almost every adult ♂ seems to be still more or less associated with 2,3, or 4 ♀'s or juvs. I have yet to see any birds in transitional plumage between juv. and adult ♂. All the ♀s or juvs I have seen may really be adult ♀s. Ramphocelus, I March 25, 1962 Rio Piedras Arrive area A ♂ Yellow-rump 5:55 a.m. Still too dark to see clearly. But there seems to be a ♂ uttering Ф's without ФR when I arrive. This is much earlier than the time the birds became vocal a few weeks ago. I think each Ф without ФR might be transcribed as "Kheezoo". Probably several birds uttering these notes now 6:02. One bird also uttering soft "Kioo" or "Klioo" PN's as well as Ф's without ФR's.
