Ramphocelus, Mar. 27, 1962, II

Cop. 6:27 a.m. Male D flies straight to female. I did not see female before male approaches. Male utters long accelerated soft ФR or R as he flies to female. Female silent. Male flies straight on to her back. By the time he lands, female is in soliciting posture. Extreme BU (nearly vertical),wings out horizontally, No Q, very slight TU little or no ruffling of underparts (although they may well have been somewhat fluffed). Cop. apparently successful. Silent. Female remains in same posture throughout, and for several seconds after male dismounts. Male perches right beside her for a few seconds after dismounting. In very similar posture extreme BU, little TU,little or no ruffling of underparts. Wings not out. Meeting on back, but tilted to one side revealing yellow rump on side toward female very conspicuously!! Silent.

This tilting of wings may be an "indication" of Wars

Then male flies away. Female immediately goes out of BU (and slight TU, if she has any). Keeps wings out. Q's them in three spasmodic bursts, as she gradually lowers them. Still silent. Flies to adjacent perch. Q's wings in brief burst, while wings are drooped, immediately after landing. Then relaxes.

This cop occurred in a bush about 6 ft above ground. About 20 ft from tree where cop occurred yesterday.
