out 2 ft away. Then male suddenly advances toward female. In forward crouch posture, head & neck low and stretched forward utters brief RR - brief RR-R as he advances. Assume extreme back R at the same time. Then turns about when he is only a few inches from female. Utters "eeyah" as he turns (this followed immediately after the R). Maintains Back R for a second after he turns. For a record after the end of the "eeyah", while he is quite silent. Then moves away from female. Hopping along branch. Silent. Back R gradually disappears.

The whole incident was very rapid!

The brief RR's might be transcribed as "3 Zranh, zranh."They may be described both as real HAC and as intermediate between R and NN.

9:15. Male several times utters combinations of RR and R when he comes close to the female and/or she comes close to him. No response by the female. No other display by male, except that he sometimes BW's immediately after end of vocalization.
9:16 Male does R-eeyah when female approaches him. Female flies on.

The terminal "eeyah"s are quite similar to typical RR's (or HAC) except that they are less harsh.

9:20 Male utters brief RR-R-brief RR-R-brief RR when female lands a foot away from her. At the same time, he advances toward her and then retreats again. All very rapid. No trace of either Back R or G, but the male was in a sort of forward crouch as he advanced.

9:21 Male utters series brief RR's when he approaches female. "Zaa-zaa zaa-wah zaa whee." A real "GHAC". Male immediately moves again. No other display. No female response.

9:23 Male suddenly flies to attack female in air. Utters more HAC-type RR's at moment of impact. Then male flies away again.
