jabs at him, and he flies away again immediately.

Things very dull again 9:55.

Male suddenly "pounces" on female. Utters "GHAC" type notes (something like "Zhee-wee-tsee-tseewee") — R at moment of impact and as he flies away from female immediately afterward.

Then birds settle down again.

Leaving myself 10:05 a.m.

Looking over today's notes, it has occurred to me that this male may have 2 types of "HAC" Notes (like birds of many other species). The harsher "āā" type notes may be equivalent to the "pure" HAC of other species. The "ee" type notes may be equivalent to the "GHAC" of other species. But both may include both friendly and hostile components.

I think it is quite possible that some of the wild birds I watched may have uttered RR-type HAC notes at the beginning of their Ф's but that I simply overlooked them.

Watching same birds. Arrive 6:00 a.m. Already fairly light.

Both birds flying about cage fairly actively. Usually silent, but both occasionally utter single TssN (usually not synchronized).

Birds usually not together. Twice, however, male utters more or less brief RR when he happens to be close to female. More or less "Zraaaah". Once uttered from forward crouch. No female response. Birds always separate immediately 6:10 a.m.

6:13 male utters more prolonged RR when he lands close to female.
