ECOLOGY &
INTER-SPECIFIC RELATIONS NEAR MÉRIDA
DIGLOSSINI

[[underlined]] Sept. 15, 1962 [[/underlined]]

[[margin]] BQ [[/margin]] One or more BQ's in thickets and trees near hotel in afternoon. One (at least) singing.

[[margin]] Bari [[/margin]] A single Diglossa ([[female symbol]] or juv, rather greenish yellow-gray, streaked underneath - [[underlined]] albilatera [[/underlined]] ?) seen in thicket which had previously been visited by a BQ. Quite silent.

[[underlined]] Sept. 16 [[/underlined]]

[[margin]] Albi Inter??? [[/margin]] One [[male symbol]] [[underlined]] albilatera [[/underlined]] and ([[underlined]] probably [[/underlined]]) one [[underlined]] intermedium [[/underlined]] associated with mixed flock near first stop of Teleferico.
10:40 am. Other members of flock included at least 1 [[underlined]] Basilenterus [[/underlined]] (same species as at Nono), 1 [[underlined]] Thraupis cyanocephala [[/underlined]], 2 Atlapetes (no. II on list), and others. I don't know if the Diglossini associated with this flock were really integral members of the group; but they certainly disappeared when the other birds did.
[[margin]] Albi [[/margin]] The [[underlined]] albilatera [[/underlined]] and the presumed [[underlined]] intermedium [[/underlined]] were not particularly closely associated with one another within the flock.

The members of this flock were scattered through several layers of vegetation, from low scrub to 20 or 30 ft high in trees. Some members probably moved between several different layers.
