Mixed Diglossa, May 10, 1965, III. (12)

^[[Cinn Cy VIII]] appears or sings this time. Interestingly enough, there was a Cinnamon near the Cy this time. Also a Green Hummingbird VIII. Neither appeared to pay the slightest attention to the Cy. Because the Cy did [[underlined]] not [[/underlined]] Sing??? Cy flies off almost immediately.

^[[XXV N]] ^[[Laf]] ^[[161 162]] Single Firebelly ^[[checkmark]] flies into tree where there is a Whitestart ^[[checkmark]]. Firebelly feeds about 10 ft up. Whitestart feeds 20 ft up. Flycatching Firebelly silent. Whitestart Sings Immediately, single Laf appears, hopping up to top small bush 30 ft away! Just sits there silently. Then Firebelly and Whitestart disappear. Laf flies back down into bush and disappears too 7:01 am.

^[[Gen]] Whitestart sings in distance. No diglossine audible before or after. It looks as if these Whitestarts do not stimulate Song by Diglossini, at least now, to any appreciable extent.

Large green hummingbird with blue wings feeds in tree where I have seen Cy, near where Laf, Ater, and CC have been seen. No diglossine appears to escort it. (This hummingbird is species I have seen elsewhere in Andes. Eastern Cordillera? I have never seen it react with Diglossini anywhere.)

^[[Ater Laf 132]] 7:13. See single Ater feeding dark ^[[checkmark]] red cup-shaped flowers only 2 ft from where Laf seen only a few minutes earlier. Silent. Alone. Disappears almost immediately.

^[[Cy Laf Ater]] Obviously, Cy territories here overlap both Laf [[underlined]] and [[/underlined]] Ater territories.

^[[Cy Laf Ater 133]] 7:16. More proof. Single adult Cy, uttering "Seet" Notes flies over scrub in which both Ater and Laf seen this morning. Lands in tree. Then flies off again.

^[[Cy Laf Ater 134]] 7:25. See single Laf ^[[checkmark]] feeding dark red cup shaped flowers. In scrub 4 ft up. Not far from where both Ater and Cy seen before.

Transcription Notes:
I don't believe some of this is modern grammar. It is, it's just that Moynihan often abbreviates species and behaviors, and some of his letters can look like other letters. Just takes some time to get used to :)
