Mixed Diglossini, May 17, 1965, IV. (40)

or Whitestart audible at the time. Laf shuts up. Whitestart Sings up hill. (I can see this bird. It is alone, 40 ft up tall tree.)

^[[Cy]] Then see single adult Cy feeding dark red cup shaped flowers bush about 20 ft from A bush. Apparently alone. Flies away.

^[[Ater 196]] A few minutes later, see juv. ^[[checkmark]] Ater feeding in A bush itself. Silent. Apparently quite alone.

Going up hill 7:45 am.

^[[Ater 198]] See long Diglossa chase in area low scattered vegetation. Adult Ater is certainly the pursuer. The pursued is apparently the juv. Ater. Chase accompanied by lots of R's, a few R-Zaza's, and at least one peculiar pattern intermediate between R and Twitter: "Zreeeee zreeeee zreeee zreeeerryoo"

^[[Cy 199]] These two birds eventually fly downhill. Immediately, a Cy ^[[checkmark]], about 30 yds away from where chase took place begins to Sing. Songs usual type. Three and four "Tsit" Intro Notes with each phrase. Then, Cy alternates a few phrases with Whitestart some distance away. No overlaps.

Going downhill 8:06 am.

Leaving this area 8:45 am.

^[[Ater 200]] Arrive area where [[underlined]] rufinucha [[/underlined]] seen yesterday 9:15 am. Scans displaying. Vocalizing and flights. Also see what looks like ^[[checkmark]] Ater display flight with Twitter about 30 yds from where presumed Scan displayed a minute earlier (this incident also recorded in notes on general mixed flocks)

^[[Albi?]] 9:27. Hear Albi-like Twitter from low scrub edge pasture.

^[[Cinn Scan?]] 9:55. See a Cinnamon attacked by a greenish hummingbird of equal or greater size. Can't identify the latter, as it just buzzes in and then away. But it might well have been a Scan!!!
