Mixed Diglossini, May 21, 1965, II. (59)

^[[XVIII HO]] ^[[Cy]] ^[[200 202 203 213]] Then hear Cy Singing in distance. No other diglossine or whitestart audible. Then see Cy ^[[checkmark]] ^[[1]]. 15 ft up in small tree thick scrub edge river. And there are 2 ^[[two checkmarks]] ^[[2]] Yellow bellies in same tree. Only [[underlined]] 1 ft [[/underlined]] away. No sign overt hostility between Species. All silent now. Then I see that there are a [[underlined]] lot [[/underlined]] of other birds in scrub below tree. Including 1 ^[[checkmark]] [[underlined]] PL ^[[3]] [[/underlined]] Atlapetes (relatively very dark underneath). Then all lost to view 8:30 am. ^[[ten checkmarks]] ^[[4567]]

^[[Cy Laf]] As far as I have been able to determine so far this morning, there is only 1 Cy and 1 Laf here. And their territories are not overlapping. Diglossini seem to be rare here - [[underlined]] presumably simply because it is so very humid here. [[/underlined]]

^[[Cy]] 8:40 Catch glimpse same group farther down stream. Cy and Yellowbelly together in small tree. Cy f---> Yellow belly.

Rain stopping 8:45 am.

Leaving 8:55 am.

Then worked in various other areas at lower elevations.

NOTES:

^[[Laf Albi]] I. The last Laf seen with the last mixed flock was in an area which looked [[underlined]] perfect [[/underlined]] for the Albis of Munchique. Perhaps Albis and Lafs [[underlined]] are [[/underlined]] nearly mutually exclusive.

^[[Cy Laf]] II. At no time this morning did I hear any overlaps between Cy, Laf, or Whitestart Songs. This may be correlated with the fact that both Diglossines, at least, seem to be relatively rare in the areas visited this morning. It must be easier to prevent overlapping of Songs when populations are sparse than when they are dense.

III Although both a Laf and a Cy were seen with the last mixed flock this morning, I am not sure that they were with flock simultaneously. I.E. I am not certain that the territories of the 2 birds overlapped.
