Central Cordillera Colombia (85) Mixed Diglossini, I August 1, 1965 Puracé Going to work this morning in the first place I worked a few months ago - i.e. the place where Cy, Ater, Laf and CC all occurred together. Arrive 5:31 a.m. Still quite dark. Cold. Sky partly cloudy. Some fog in distance, coming up from Moscopán. Everything very quiet at dawn. SEE ALSO TODAY'S NOTES ON GENERAL MIXED FLOCKS ^[[VIII]] 6:08, See green hummingbird, presumably no. VIII, feeding on pink tubular [[underlined]] Passiflora [[/underlined]] (usual Andean type). [[underlined]] Surprisingly enough puts bill to base of green tubular part of the flower - not into pink petals [[/underlined]]!!! [[image - drawing of tubular flower with arrow pointing to base]] ^[[Gen]] [[underlined]] I think that this bird must have been putting its bill into a hole made by a Diglossa [[/underlined]] ( I remember that I thought hummingbirds VIII might be using Diglossa holes a couple of months ago - and that this might help to explain why they don't fight with Diglossas.) 6:10 A few Songs in distance which probably are uttered by Yellowfaced Whitestarts. NODWA ^[[Laf]] 6:18. Hear what probably is Laf Song - in very great distance. NODWA. Then silence. Then one more Yellowface Song. NODWA. Then silence again. ^[[Ater 1]] 6:23 Then see single ^[[checkmark]] Ater. Silent. 12 ft up in second growth tree in scrub. Not very far from noisy (but invisible) [[underlined]] Poecilothraupis; [[/underlined]]
