Ater 7

[]
7:57 am. See single Ater ✓, silent and alone, in scrub slightly up hill from where CC's seen a few minutes ago. Presumably same individual seen a few months ago. If it still has same territory it had then, then CC and Ater territories or ranges overlap here (too).

8:03. See what may be hummingbird VIII down hill. In scrub. Silent and alone.

[] ? Ater []
8:12. SGH-type hummingbird feeding clusters small yellow flowers only a few feet from where Ater seen earlier. Ater does not reappear. SGH flies on. Approximately 1 min. later, catch brief glimpse Ater 30ft away. Silent and alone.

[] Ater 8 9 []
See Ater again 8:22 ✓. Silent alone. Then it chases another bird, apparently ✓ another Ater. Chase probably silent. 1 Ater back again a few minutes later. Still silent and alone. Flies off. Then reappears in an adjacent bush. Pulls insects off leaves. Then perches exposed on Paniflora vine. Does not feed on flowers. Then dives down into scrub - Hiding? Because a small hummingbird appears at almost exactly same moment, circles 3 or 4 times around Paniflora where Ater had been perched. Hummingbird flies off. And then Ater re-emerges!

Do non-breeding Aters have a tendency to avoid all hummingbirds??? Even the hummingbirds which are not likely to attack???

Leaving this area 8:35 am.

Going back above road. 8:56 am. See single Ater ✓. Silent and alone. 2-6 ft up in rather sparse low scrub.

There are still a lot of lavender melastome flower here. But also lately nothing seems to be visiting them now.

Transcription Notes:
Wondering if writer means "Passeflora" or "Planifolia".
