Mixed Diglossini, Aug. 14, 1967, IV

[] Scan ? []
TODAY'S NOTES ON MIXED FLOCKS. Come to area 7590 ft 8:20 a.m. Edge of USTF. Scattered rather low trees with mixed scrub, including lots of bamboo. Hear hummingbird sounds. Then see single bird, perched 6 ft up. Definitely Colibri!!!! Unfortunately only get side view of it. Certainly has purple moustache stripe, but I can't see breast and belly. Almost certainly Scan. (I might add that the hummer Songs heard around here are essentially one-note. As I remember vaguely, this is characteristic of Scan rather than Thalass.)

[] Thalass []
Speak of the devil! Now I do hear two-note Songs, not far away. Are both species present????
In any case, both the 1-note Songs heard a few minutes ago and the 2-note Songs heard now are (were) NODWAH Apparently only a single ind. each time.

[] Thalass []
NOTE: During my description of the mixed flock observed earlier, I described many Whitestart CXXVII Songs as NODWAH. I still think that they were. But I wouldn't absolutely guarantee that there were no Colibri sounds in the background during a few Whitestart phrases.
CORRECTION: These "2-note" hummer Songs are really 3-note..

Etc. Etc.

8:40 am. Now I see the bird uttering this 3-note Song (still completely NODWAH by the way). Perched 30 ft up in slender bare tree. Unfortunately right overhead and in abominable light. Certainly looks like Colibri in shape. And, as far as I can tell, it does not have blue or purple underneath.

Transcription Notes:
