Mixed Diglossine, Apr 5, 1965, II

[[margin]] Glor [[/margin]]
My! The Glors certainly are keeping themselves well hidden!!!
6:50am Still not a trace of diglossine song.
I haven't seen any red or pink flowers around here now either

[[margin]] Cy? [[/margin]]
7:19 am. Suddenly hear diglossine song. Not Glor. Then see the singing bird. High exposed in tree, 30-40 ft above ground. Either Cy or Coer (silhouetted against sun, so I can't see details clearly). I think Cy. Singing phrase after phrase. All fairly short, not very fast, irregular twitters. Some or all preceded by 1 or 2 intoductory "seeeeee" Notes.
This bird is being "answered" by another up hill. Latter uttering same type of phrases. Some overlaps.

[[margin]] Cy? [[/margin]]
Both birds continue for a minute or so. Then shut up.

[[margin]] Cy? Glor [[/margin]]
So, here as in Quito, the Cy-type Diglossas sing during seasons when carbonaria-types are silent!

I lose sight of the one bird almost immediately after it shuts up. Didn't see it feeding.

Some minutes later, White-spectacled Whitestart utters a few phrases. As soon as it shuts up, I hear a few Cy-type phrases in distance!

Leave 9:30am
Working around hotel again this afternoon. 4:00pm. Rain pouring down.

[[margin]] BQ [[/margin]]
BQ's quite active in rain. Feeding on Eucalyptus flowers (white - same as in 1962) as well as Erythrina.

[[margin]] XCC [[/margin]]
An XCC (green wing) back in Erythrina 4:06. No (other) diglossine around. Supplanted by BT Leaves without resistance.

[[margin]] XCC BQ [[/margin]]
XCC disappears. Then BQ appears. Feeds in same Erythrina.
